With our first stage of Turkey Journey, we explored the cities of Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Bartın, Zonguldak, Karabük, Kastamonu, Sinop and Çankırı.
Karabük · UNESCO World Heritage
Famous for its 17th-century wooden mansions, Safranbolu is one of the best-preserved Ottoman urban settlements. Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1994, its historic bazaar, caravanserais and han buildings form a magnificent open-air museum.
Bolu · Natural Wonder
Surrounded by beech, oak and hornbeam forests on Bolu's high plateau, Abant Lake is a natural treasure offering different beauties in every season. This serene valley transforms into a fairytale land when morning mist spreads across the lake surface.
Sinop · Historic Structure
Sinop, located on the northern coast of the Black Sea and Turkey's northernmost point, stands out for both its rich history and unique bay view. Its ancient castle walls, which have held strategic importance since antiquity, are the city's iconic landmark.
Bartın · Historic Town
Built on a small peninsula, Amasra, with its ancient walls, colorful fishing boats and panorama between two bays, is one of the most popular vacation spots on the Black Sea. It has a very distinctive urban fabric with its historic castle and terraced houses.
An unforgettable 7-day journey starting from Kocaeli and covering Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Bartın, Zonguldak, Karabük, Kastamonu, Sinop and Çankırı.
On the first day of our journey, we walked through Safranbolu's UNESCO World Heritage streets. We listened to the sound of coppersmith hammers in the Historic Bazaar, rested in the courtyard of Cinci Han. We explored the Governor's Mansion and examined Ottoman period interior architecture up close. In the evening, we browsed handicrafts at Yemeniciler Arastası to end the day.
We started the day with Amasra's striking peninsula views. We walked along the walls of the Byzantine Castle watching the blue of the Black Sea. We examined artifacts from the region's ancient period at Amasra Museum. In the afternoon, we relaxed by the seaside at the historic Small Harbor and enjoyed local seafood.
We reached Turkey's northernmost point. We felt the city's past walking along Sinop Castle's wall ramparts. We visited the historic Sinop Prison Museum and learned about the difficult living conditions there. In the afternoon, we walked along the coast at Sarıkum Nature Park and watched the stormy Black Sea waters.
We explored Kastamonu's historic texture. In the morning, we watched the city's panoramic view from Kastamonu Castle. We then visited historic houses where the hat revolution took place and tasted the region's famous Kastamonu sausage. In the evening, we visited İsfendiyaroğulları Tomb and ended the day peacefully.
On our last day, we immersed ourselves in nature. We took a morning walk by the clear waters of Abant Lake, absorbing the peace of the surrounding forest. In the afternoon, we went to Bartın and photographed the historic Ulugazi Bridge, then took an evening photo break by the Bartın River in the last light of day.
